My sculpture explores fantastical worlds of dreams and physical transformation. By replicating the landscape in miniature scale with model making materials and the human limbs with faux means of cast plastics, I explore the fantastical world in which the human psyche can cope with the acts of loss.
Rolling hills and vast cliffs with suspended waterfalls become the reality that is encroached upon by human elements. When creating this juxtaposition between the landscape and the dismembered human an absurd disjointed world is made and becomes the grounds for a narrative. Each narrative created becomes an entity within itself removed from the reality that surrounds it.
I contain these miniature worlds in clear domes to heighten the preciousness of the fantasy created. The contained narratives sit in stands that refer to the human body and landscape, which have been transformed to give the whole piece a science fiction feeling. Through this repetitive act of containment I am referencing the psychological need of humans to escape through dreams and fantasy.
