Opening Reception: March 10, 2016 | 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

“Join us for the opening of Art Unites Communities, an exhibition that celebrates multiculturalism and the transcendent, unifying force of visual creativity.

Forty-four pieces by twenty-four artists explore diverse cultures and identities in all media, from the tiny sculpture, Ohmu,by Tatiana Flis, a fantastical landscape created on an egg under a bell jar, to the large-scale print collage by Debra Olin, Eyelet with Apron, a disembodied and yet inhabited image of a simple dress.  Upon entering the gallery, one can sense something stirring and powerful.  The artworks themselves become a community, diverse and alive, each with a story to tell.

First shown at the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative in 2007, “El Arte Une Los Pueblos, Art Unites Communities” has since expanded, evolved and become a traveling exhibition sponsored by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.  Back in its newest incarnation, Art Unites Communities 2016 was organized by artist/ arts administrator, Nancy Gaucher-Thomas, and Elena Calderón Patiño, Director of Community Arts Program at RISCA.

Opening reception is on Thursday March 10th from 5:30 to 7:30.  Music by Singer/Songwriter, Tony Bluze. Refreshments.”
