Remainder Remains

I explore relationships between human, nature, and object. In this collection, I focused on evoking memories of what has been forgotten and/or lost. In offering the viewer a familiar landscape, the work tells stories of generational loss, environmental loss, and exposes what might be buried just below the surface.

THE EXHIBITION: REMAINDER REMAINS

“Remainder Remains” was on view from August 28–September 29, 2019 at Fountain Street Gallery, Boston, MA. The two person exhibit offered a rich combination of abstract and concrete imagery. In highlighting that which has been left behind, the exhibit evoked the memory of what has been taken, forgotten, lost, or stolen. An initial impression revealed other potential realities, as in a counterfactual narrative, and gradually discloses their layers of meaning.

Through the use of found imagery and collage, common threads emerge between my work and that of Elizabeth Alexander, friend and colleague. We each unearth elements of human behavior and emotion that we culturally tend to ignore. In addition, “Remainder Remains” featured drawing and sculpture, and included a sound piece by Todd Bowser, Elizabeth’s husband and long time collaborator, and image series by Elizabeth referencing the Gardner art heist. Throughout the gallery, we shared themes of disappearance and desire take hold. The result was an exhibition of generational loss and the marks of what remains.
